SONQO cacao nibs are an aromatic addition to your morning muesli, salad, ice cream, or baked goods. They can be ground into cacao mass and then enjoyed in a drink with water or milk. The light roasting gives this natural superfood a particularly delicious flavor, while the pleasant bitterness promotes a heightened awareness of your digestive system.
Chuncho means "wild" in Quechua. This original and resilient cacao variety doesn't grow on plantations, but in the wild, amidst intact biodiversity. The robust Chuncho beans are cultivated without chemicals and are genetically unaltered. Unlike hybrid varieties, which are harvested several times a year, Cacao Chuncho can only be carefully wild-harvested once a year, following its natural cycle.
SONQO's cacao nibs (300g) are lightly roasted, giving them their characteristic nutty-fruity superfood flavor.
After harvesting, the cacao beans are gently dried, cleaned, hand-sorted, and roasted. During this process, the beans burst open. In the subsequent "crush" process, the cacao bean fragments are separated from the shells using a type of grain-scraping machine, then sorted again manually and packaged.
The high quality of the cacao beans is enhanced by natural sun-drying and the original fermentation process. Cacao nibs are rich in fiber and a source of potassium and iron; two minerals essential for healthy blood.
Warning: Do not consume Pachamama Cacao excessively! The recommended amount is 30g per day per person.

What are cacao nibs?
Cacao nibs are small pieces of raw or roasted cacao beans. SONQO's nibs are roasted to fully develop their aroma. They come from one of the most original cacao varieties, Chuncho cacao from Peru. This makes them particularly healthy and, of course, exceptionally delicious.
What do cacao nibs taste like?
The roasted cacao nibs have a pronounced bitterness upon first bite. This naturally heightens awareness of your gut sensations. As a daily companion, the crunchy nibs can gradually unfold up to 600 different flavors on the palate.
What can I use cacao nibs for?
There are many ways to use cacao nibs. They can be combined with both sweet and savory dishes. Cacao nibs go well with:
- Muesli or porridge – for a crunchy, chocolatey taste
- Yogurt or quark
- Fruit or fruit salad
- Salads or roasted vegetables
You can also sprinkle cacao nibs over your smoothie or use them when baking muffins, cookies and brownies, as well as in energy bars or bliss balls.
Why does cacao make you happy?
Cacao's ability to make you happy is due to its ingredients – especially the alkaloid salsolinol. This promotes the release of dopamine in the brain, often referred to as the "happiness hormone." Cacao also contains the amino acid L-tryptophan, which the body converts into serotonin. This neurotransmitter affects both our nervous system and our circulatory system. Serotonin gives the body a sense of inner calm and is said to counteract stress.
Are cacao nibs healthy?
Roasted cacao nibs are a rich source of minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc, and copper, which are essential for various bodily functions. For example, they support the immune system and aid in the formation of red blood cells. This makes cacao nibs a true superfood.
Furthermore, cacao nibs also contain theobromine – theobromine is structurally similar to caffeine. However, it is not as strong and has a longer-lasting effect, stimulating the heart and thus dilating blood vessels. This ingredient is also said to improve your mood. The word parts "theo" and "broma" translate to "nectar of the gods."
Are roasted cacao nibs good for digestion?
Yes, they are. Roasted cacao nibs promote digestion because the enzymes contained in the bean break down the ingested food into its natural components.
Why do the Pachamama cacao nibs have no labels or certificates?
SONQO is committed to a holistic lifestyle and refrains from using certificates and labels because these only ever consider partial aspects of a holistic ecology. SONQO thus underscores its holistic approach.
