SONQO means HEART in Quechua. An open heart receives wisdom. When we are connected through wisdom, we can move mountains and realize visions – just as the Incas once created magical world wonders in Peru.
The Cacao Ceremony by sonqo.org dissolves the feeling of separation. And the collective wisdom of the group leads us to a deeper experience of Oneness.
Experience an authentic Peruvian Cacao Ceremony with Pachamama Cacao, led by Ángel Herrera from Cusco. In this heart-opening ceremony, ancient Andean healing knowledge, the wisdom of the Amazon plant world, and the Munay Meditation – the Peruvian meditation of unconditional love – are united.
The Ceremony invites you to connect with your heart, find inner peace, and consciously experience values such as compassion, gratitude, and confidence. The experience extends beyond the ceremony and can sustainably accompany you in your daily life. At the same time, SONQO supports non-profit projects for syntropic farming and biodiverse cacao cultivation in the Amazon.

Which cacao is used in the ceremony?
For the Munay Cacao Ceremony, we use Pachamama cacao from SONQO. It comes from Syntropic Jungle Care projects, is wild-harvested, lovingly processed by hand, naturally sun-dried, and fermented in the heart of the jungle. It is vegan, gluten-free, and has no added sugar – and is traditionally prepared with water (without milk or plant-based milk) for your Munay Cacao Ceremony.
Is it safe for me to drink cacao during pregnancy?
Yes, you can safely drink cacao during pregnancy. The many healthy ingredients can even have a positive effect on the pregnancy. However, due to increased sensitivity, you might need to reduce the amount from 20g per cup (200ml) by about half. It's best to listen to your body and find the right amount for you.
Where can I learn rituals for my interaction with cacao?
In the SONQO Cacao Course, you'll learn how to handle ceremonial cacao in three modules. You'll also be regularly invited to free online live streams from SONQO to practice with the SONQO community. Find out more on our events page. Or search for "Module 1" in our shop to find our Cacao Course.
Why does cacao make you happy?
Cacao's ability to make you happy is due to its ingredients – especially the alkaloid salsolinol. This promotes the release of dopamine in the brain, often referred to as the "happiness hormone." Cacao also contains the amino acid L-tryptophan, which the body converts into serotonin. This neurotransmitter affects both our nervous system and our circulatory system. Serotonin gives the body a sense of inner calm and is said to counteract stress.
